Aspirin is a household drug that is commonly used for body pain or headaches. A lot of time the use of aspirin has been abused. Aspirin is not paracetamol as a lot of people would think, I used to be in that category. The variant of aspirin products in Nigeria are alabukun and phensic. Aspirin serves as a relief for a lot of pains such as, headaches, menstrual and body pains and so on.
Salicylic acid, the active ingredient in aspirin is very useful in reducing the risk of heart disease and blood clot in people with circulatory problem. Salicylic acid is responsible for all the goodness in aspirin.
I bet you would be surprised to know that aspirin can also be used for skin and hair care. You probably were wondering what’s the connect? Yea right, aspirin can be used to treat skin irritations (acne) and dandruff (hair). Wow!!! That was my expression the first time I saw this.
Before we proceed let’s establish what acne and dandruff means as well as their effects.
Acne is a skin condition caused by the dead skin cells or too much oiliness causing a blockage of the pores resulting in pimples, blackheads and white heads. It usually appears on the face, chest, upper back and arm. It majorly associated with adolescent a lot more in teenagers. Acne can be very embarrassing and can mar a person’s confidence.
Dandruff, like acne is also caused by dead skin cells in the scalp. It is a very common condition but equally embarrassing. Dandruff does not have any relation with hygiene but washing and brushing of hair can be of help removing dead skin flakes.
We already know that orally taken aspirin can provide great health benefits but it is advised to be taken under prescription. Doing otherwise is drug abuse. Now let’s look at how we can use aspirin to take of our skin and hair.
The following processes can be used in the treatment of acne.
You need 5 to 6 aspirin tablets, water or Apple Cider Vinegar
Add few drops of water to aspirin enough to make paste, if it’s a bad outbreak use apple cider vinegar. It will result in a soothing effect on skin clearing your pores. For oily skin add egg whites and dry skin add olive oil. Rub the aspirin mixture on sports or full face (for mask) always avoid the eyes external use only. Allow for 15 minutes and wipe it off gently with a soft wet cloth. You feel the result from the first application.
Aspirin and Lemon Juice
You Need 1 Teaspoon Lemon Juice, 5 to 6 Aspirins or powdered equivalent.
Crush tablets and add lemon juice. Let it stay till a grainy consistency is formed. For a sun damaged skin lemon juice works perfectly. It reduces the sun damage and slows down the oxidation of skin’s free radicals. Lemon juice also brightens and smoothens uneven skin tone while Aspirin helps in exfoliation.
Apply the mixture to the affected parts of the skin and leave for 20 minutes. Wash off with cold water. Twice a week is advisable to heal your skin.
Aspirin paste And Honey
You Need 1 Teaspoon of Organic Honey, 5 to 6 Aspirin Tablets or powdered equivalent, Almond Oil.
Add organic honey to paste and mix well. Add few drops of almond oil. Honey is a good skin nourishment, its antibacterial content reduces outbreaks on skin. Apply the mixture on your skin and leave on for 15 minutes. Wash off with warm water.
Aspirin and Baking Soda
You Need 6 to 12 Aspirins or powdered equivalent, 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda, 1 Cup of Water.
Make paste of aspirin and in a separate bowl melt the baking soda in water.
Dab the paste on your face with a cotton pad and let stay for 10 minutes. Wipe your face with the baking soda and wash it off with cold water afterwards. Do this twice a week, and achieve great results. Baking soda is a great natural scrubbing agent.
Aspirin and Toothpaste
You Need 5 to 6 Aspirins and Toothpaste
Squeeze a large quantity of organic toothpaste onto a plate, make a paste of aspirin powder with water until it comes to a grainy consistency. Blend toothpaste with aspirin paste and make sure it’s well combined. Apply the paste to your face and let it stay for 15 minutes. Wipe it off gently with a wet cloth after that. Toothpaste helps pimple to dry and smoothens the skin.
Aspirin and Hydrogen Peroxide
You Need 5 to 6 Aspirin Tablets, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Aloe Vera Gel.
Make a grainy paste of aspirin, add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide. Mix well until it’s blended. With a cotton pad dab mix unto your face. Leave to dry then wash off with cold water. Apply some aloe vera gel to your face, again leave to dry and wash off with cold water. Hydrogen peroxide absorbs the oil while aloe vera restores lost moisture. It’s a win-win situation.
Aspirin and Witch Hazel
You Need 120 ml Distilled Water, 4 Aspirin Tablets, and 350 ml Liquid Witch Hazel
Feel a plastic bottle with the water, add the aspirin shake well making sure it is dissolved. Now add the witch hazel. Shake the bottle thoroughly again. Using cotton balls dab liquid on your face, let it dry and wash off with warm water.
Aspirin and Yogurt
You Need 1 Teaspoon Yogurt and 5 to 6 Aspirins
Make a grainy paste of aspirin by adding few drops of water, add yogurt and blend it well. Apply to your face and let it stay on for 20 minutes. Wash off with cold water. Yogurt helps combat sunburn and also smoothens skin tone.
Aspirin as so many ways to apply that we cannot exhaust in this article, but I hope this article as been helpful enough. You should note that it advisable to clean the skin before applying this packs for better result and also not to use more than twice a week to avoid side effects occurring.
Now let’s check how to apply to hair.
You need aspirins, shampoo and conditioner.
Mix 3 aspirin powdered equivalent of tablet to your normal amount of shampoo for washing your hair, do the same for conditioner. Now apply shampoo to hair massage well wash off, repeat the process again to ensure hair is cleaning. Apply conditioner to hair, massage well leave in for a few minutes, and then wash off. The aspirin is an oxidants, it helps removes dead sell from scalp and help take in more oxygen reducing dead cells. This application leaves the hair shiny and encourages better growth.
In other to avoid allergies, it’s safe to test a little part of the hair first. In order to achieve great result it is advised to be consistent with use. If any form of irritation occurs, it is also advised to stop use immediately.
