Oligomenorrhea is a medical condition among women. In cases like this, a woman has infrequent periods with intervals of more than thirty-five days.
Usually, the menstrual cycle ranges from twenty one to thirty-five days. Bleeding lasts for two to about seven days. Women normally have 11 to 13 periods in a year, but those with oligomenorrhea may have fewer than six or seven periods.
Irregular periods are characterized by variations in the time between each of your periods , the number of days that your periods last , and abnormal blood loss (whether less or more than usual) during a period.
Certain factors could be responsible for this, including eating disorders, significant weight gain or loss, uterine abnormalities, polycystic ovarian syndrome, anemia, menopause, recent birth or miscarriage, thyroid disorders, hormonal imbalance, diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, liver disease, tuberculosis etc.
Lifestyle factors like smoking, excessive alcohol intake, stress, travel, birth control pills and other kinds of medications could also affect your period. According to a study in 2005, asthma and hay fever may also be associated with irregular menstruation.
Menstrual cycles tend to be irregular during the first few years after it starts and also towards the end of a woman’s menstrual years (menopause).
Plus, as different women are likely to have different menstrual patterns, slight irregularities once in a while should not be a cause for concern.
Below are a few home remedies that could help regularise your period

Carrot Juice

Carrot juice is a great source of iron and can help irregular menstrual periods. Raw carrots will boost proper hormone functioning. Drink a fresh glass of carrot juice frequently for at least three months. You may decide to add up a few vegetable juices too.
You could also add lettuce, corn, beets, pumpkin seeds and drumsticks to your diet. It is believed that drinking sugar cane juice for about two weeks prior to your expected periods will help regulate your periods.
Plus, try to relax and maintain a physical and emotional balance. If you used to have regular periods and you notice the changes, speak with a doctor for evaluation as well as treatment, especially if you’re forty or above.

Mint

Combining honey and dried mint has been used as an Ayurvedic remedy for irregular menstrual periods for a long time. The mixture also helps to ease menstrual cramps. To use :
• Consume a teaspoon of dried mint powder mixed with a teaspoon of honey.
• Repeat this three times a day for several weeks.

Fennel

Fennel is great for treating irregular menstrual periods. Being a potent emmenagogue, it helps promote menstruation and relieves cramps associated with premenstrual syndrome as a result of its antispasmodic properties. Plus, it also helps rebalanced female sex hormones.

To use :

• Soak two tablespoons of fennel seeds in a glass of water overnight.
• In the morning, strain the solution and drink it.
• Do this daily for about a month or until your menses get regular.

Coriander Seeds

Due to its emmenagogue properties, coriander is another great home remedy for menstruation.
To use :
• Boil a teaspoon of coriander seeds in two cups of water till the water reduces to a cup.
• Strain the seeds from the liquid and drink.
• Do this thrice daily for a few days prior to your period.
• Be consistent with this for a few months.
• You could also take coriander juice for a few months.

Ginger

Ginger is beneficial as it helps regulate menstrual cycles and also helps to relieve menstrual pain. It is hence, great for dealing with delayed or scanty periods.

To use :

• Boil half a teaspoon of freshly ground ginger in one cup of water for about seven minutes.
• Next, add some sugar and drink.
• Do this thrice a day after your meals for about a month or more.

Turmeric

Turmeric not only helps regulate menstruation, it typically balances hormones. It has emmenagogue properties that will help stimulate menstrual flow. Plus, it also has anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic which are useful in relieving menstrual pain.

To use :

• Consume a quarter teaspoon of turmeric with jaggery, milk and honey.
• Take it daily for several weeks or till you see improvement.
• You could also take turmeric in supplement form. Speak with your doctor for a proper dosage.

Unripe Papaya

Unripe Papaya has emmenagogue properties that will help regulate menstrual flow and contract muscle fibers in the uterus.
It is especially useful for irregular periods associated with stress or menopause.

To use :

• Consume unripe papaya juice frequently for a few months.
• Whenever you’re on your period, don’t drink.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is said to have a warming effect on the body according to Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Plus, it contains hydroxychalcone which is useful in the regulation of insulin levels. A study analyzing the effects of cinnamon extract on menstrual cycles in women with polycystic ovary syndrome is currently underway.

To use :

• Add half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to one glass of milk and drink daily for several weeks.
• You could also drink cinnamon tea, add it to your diets or simply chew cinnamon sticks frequently.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has a vast and wide range of uses that are almost inexhaustible. It has been found useful in regulating your hormones. To use :
• Extract fresh aloe gel from an aloe vera leaf.
• Mix it in a teaspoon of honey and consume daily before breakfast. Do this for about three months.

Sesame Seeds and Jaggery

Sesame seeds are useful in regulating menstrual cycles as they help balance your hormones. They are loaded with lignans that help bind excess hormones. Plus, they contain essential fatty acids that promote optimal hormone production. Jaggery, too, helps regulate menstrual cycles due to its warming effects.

To use :

• Dry roast a handful of sesame seeds.
• Grind them along with one teaspoon of jaggery into a fine powder.
• Take one teaspoon of this powder daily on an empty stomach in the luteal phase, or second half of your menstrual cycle (two weeks before your period starts), for a few months.
Simply eating a piece of jaggery, also known as gur, will also help regulate menstruation.
