Reasons your skin may be dull
First problem – You’re not exfoliating
It’s awesome if you exfoliate twice a day. Kudos! However, there’s another step you’re not taking – exfoliation.
If you wash your face twice a day, great! But there’s a very crucial step you need to add: exfoliation. Dryness is the most common cause of dull skin, and exfoliating creates a fresh canvas that allows topical products to penetrate better. Just remember to keep the process gentle on your skin to avoid causing inflammation or irritation.
Second problem – You’re not moisturizing
After exfoliation, the next best thing you should do for your complexion is moisturize .
Our skin surfaces may crack as a result of the demands we place on them. This cracks often translate to dullness. Using a moisturizer helps fill up those fissures by adding lipids which seal up the gaps between skin cells, making the surface smooth.
Third problem – You’re dehydrated
Dehydration reduces the blood circulation to the skin and this will cause you to look sickly and pale. Dehydration might seem like it’s a simple problem that can be solved by simply drinking water. However, according to a certified dermatologist, skin dehydration should be viewed as a long-term problem.
If you keep letting your skin get dehydrated constantly, the damage may become more long-term. Skin cells are majorly made up of water, they therefore operate best in a hydrated environment.
This means that they can still a few functions with little water but these deficiencies will still manifest in epidermal dehydration, dermal dehydration or even both.
In epidermal dehydration, you will notice fine lines or scales when it’s more severe. For dermal dehydration, you may notice deeper wrinkles from depletion of the dermis. You will also notice sagging skin.
Fourth- You’re letting yourself get stressed
If none of the points seem to be valid enough, this one should. Stress affects your skin’s brilliance or lack of it.
Stress increases the level of cortisol which then affects the flow of blood to the skin.
We suggest you adopt a more positive attitude. Also try to find ways to manage stress as stress management is an important skill that should be learnt. This will help improve your complexion, but beyond that, it will help improve your general health.
Fifth problem – You’re sleep deprived
What ever keeps you up at night is getting in between you and your dream skin. It is through sleep that the body gets to restore, repair and regenerate. If this period is, for any reason, altered or shortened, your skin cells cannot do much.

Seventh problem – You’re a smoker
We cannot overemphasize how unhealthy smoking is. Apart from its overall health effects, it also has a huge negative effect on your skin and we mean both short and long-term.

Eighth problem – You’re not eating a healthy diet
Apparently, what you eat can be reflected in what your skin looks like.
We urge you to avoid processed and salty foods as they can enhance tissue swelling through fluid retention which retards ideal light reflection.
According to certain nutritionists, you should completely avoid the typical western diet which includes high fat and sugar and lacks antioxidants, high quality protein, essential fatty acids and fiber.
