The sight of someone else puking is definitely a cringe-worthy sight. It’s way worse when it’s you doing the vomiting. Disgusting, right?
Well, it can happen for several reasons ranging from nausea to food poisoning to alcohol and stomach bug.
Vomiting can leave you feeling miserable after sapping all of your energy. You’ll also be left dehydrated if you’re not careful. That’s why you’ll often be advised to drink lots of water.

But what causes it?

Vomiting could be a sign that something is not right with the body. It could be a symptom of a disease but not a disease in itself.

Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal is popularly used in cases of food poisoning. It easily binds to toxins that have built up in the gastrointestinal system, then it gets rid of them. Pathogens are part of the toxins it helps get rid of.

What you’ll need:

Activated Charcoal capsules

What to do:

Two capsules of activated charcoal every hour should be able to do the trick. Keep taking the capsules for a whole day. However, the maximum dosage for adults is 5g per day, be careful not to exceed this.
Note that activated charcoal may interfere with nutrient absorption and other medications. If you’re on any medication or supplements, it’s best you either take them an hour after or do so before your activated charcoal episode. Also check with your doctor to make sure it’s okay.

Essential Oil

Studies have shown the effectiveness of essential oils like lemon and peppermint oil in the handling of vomiting. Both aromas have the ability to alleviate nausea and stop you from vomiting. This ability is known as the antiemetic effect.

What you’ll need:

• A handkerchief or a tissue paper
• Two drops of peppermint oil or lemon essential oil

What to do:

• Pour a few drops of peppermint or lemon essential oil in a handkerchief or tissue and inhale its aroma.
• Keep inhaling for a few minutes
• Do this whenever you feel nauseous

Lemon

When you feel sick or nauseous, lemon juice will help you as it has antibacterial and antioxidant properties that will cleanse your stomach and get rid of the stomach bug that could be the reason for your puking. Your immune system will also be boosted with the help of its vitamin C content.

What you’ll need:

• A teaspoon of honey
• A teaspoon of lemon juice

What to do:

• Mix up the honey with the lemon thoroughly
• When you’re done mixing, swallow the mixture slowly.
• Repeat it whenever you’re feeling nauseous and puking

Baking Soda

Baking soda helps neutralize the acids that rise while you’re throwing up. Sometimes, these acids stay in your mouth when you throw up and could damage your teeth. With the help of baking soda, the horrible taste is handled and your teeth is protected from damage.

What you’ll need:

• Half teaspoon of baking soda
• Half glass of water

What to do:

• Mix half a teaspoon of baking soda in half a glass of water till the baking soda is dissolved completely.
• Then rinse your mouth with it.
• No, you won’t be swallowing it, just using as a mouth rinse.
• Do this whenever you puke to reduce the after taste and protect your precious teeth.

Mint Leaves

What you’ll need:

• A teaspoon of dried mint leaves
• One cup of boiling water

What to do:

• After your water is boiled, steep the leaves in the boiled water.
• Leave it there for at least thirty minutes
• After thirty minutes, strain and sip the tea
• If this is time consuming for you, then you can also chew some of the mint leaves to relieve the vomiting.
• If you’ll be having the tea, then two cups of it a day is fine.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Vinegar sure can help ease your puking. Its taste can make you stop puking. Not to mention, it also helps get rid of the terrible after taste from throwing up.

What you’ll need:

• One teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
• Half a cup of water

What to do:

• Dilute a teaspoon of the vinegar in half a cup of water.
• Rinse your mouth with it thoroughly.
• Use it only when required. If you need to stop puking or you just need to get rid of the bad aftertaste.
Note that its not a wise thing to smell the vinegar as its odour could be overwhelming – it could make you run to the bathroom to relieve your stomach.

Rice Water

Rice water majorly helps your replenish essential nutrients and water that may have been lost. You will often lose water and essential nutrients in cases like gastritis or other stomach infections. Rice water will also help protect the lining of the stomach.

What you’ll need

• A cup of rice, preferably white. If you have no white rice, brown or any other kind should do.
• One and a half cups of water

What to do:

• Start by washing a cup of white and raw rice.
• Next, boil the rice in some water and wait till the rice is cooked
• After the rice is cooked, strain the water and preserve.
• Sip the water very slowly and almost immediately, you’ll notice that you’ve stopped vomiting.
• Repeat whenever you’re puking again.

Milk

Even though milk is the last thing you want to take when you’re nauseous and puking, milk can actually be great for your stomach. There hasn’t been any evidence or explanation as to how milk helps with puking but lots of people swear by its results. It won’t hurt to try it out, would it?

What you’ll need:

• One cup of milk
• A piece of dry toast

What to do:

• Start by warming up the milk
• Next, soak the dry toast in the warm milk and eat slowly. Almost as soon as possible, you’ll find that your vomiting is eased.
• Do this whenever you’re puking
