Vomiting is an expulsion of the stomach’s content through the mouth(or nose sometimes) involuntarily. This is the body’s natural technique for getting rid of harmful substances in the stomach and digestive tract.
The experience is often terrible but in some situations, it becomes a necessity for vomiting to take place to save your life. In scenarios like that, it’s important that you learn what ways you could employ to induce vomiting.
Before we go ahead, it’s imperative that you know inducing vomit should be your last resort after you have consulted your doctor. It should only be used in situations where you have ingested poisoned or contaminated food or too much alcohol or even nob-corrosive substance like pills.
Is Forcing Yourself To Vomit A Good Idea?
This largely depends on the situation. If you’re suffering from food poisoning or indigestion, then for relief’s sake, inducing vomiting is an option. It will ensure that your body expels all the allergens or toxins and also help you feel better almost immediately.
It becomes a problem if you’re always forcing yourself to puke. Some people actually do make inducing vomit a habit especially for weight loss or just when they feel nauseous. This behaviour can cause undue strain on the oesophagus and upper respiratory system and could also damage food pipe & throat tissues.
What are we saying? Do not make vomiting your first and only resort for everything.
Ways to Induce Vomiting
Use a toothbrush or your fingers
Using your finger has got to be the most ancient way to induce vomiting. If you’re, however, uncomfortable with sticking your finger in your throat, using a toothbrush could be another option.
They both work by stimulating your gag reflexes. If you’re going to use your fingers, wash them first. Same goes for your toothbrush. You don’t want to end up expel harmful substances by introducing germs!
To use, push your finger slowly to the back of your throat or tickle the uvula. Your gag reflex will get activated but don’t stop. Keep on doing that until you feel the vomit coming, then quickly take your hands off. This method is the surest and quickest way to get yourself to throw up.
If you’re going to use a toothbrush, wet the bristles to get them soft, then use it to tickle the back of your tongue. Pull the brush away when the nausea builds up. This should be familiar as you have probably felt like throwing up when you brushed your teeth and felt like throwing up.
After use, wash your hands and toothbrush.
Drink Salt Water
This is another effective method, which is inexpensive and is readily available. It will also help ease your sore throat, if you have any.
• Three teaspoons of table salt
• A warm glass of water
To go about this:
• Start by mixing the salt in warm water
• Stir the water well so that the salt mixes up completely.
• In one go, drink the whole glass and allow it do its thing for thirty minutes.
• After that, you should feel like throwing up in no time.
To help, you could use a finger or toothbrush.
Note: If you have diabetes or a heart issue, then taking so much salt could be harmful. For elders and kids, do not use this method.
Coca-Cola that does not contain carbon dioxide could be used if you want to throw up. Simply drink it every hour and drink water to follow it up.
It is true that Coca-Cola that is drunk immediately after opening can help treat stomach upsets. However, when it runs out of its gas, the body is unable to handle the high sugar content and thus expels it.
Stimulating Your Mind to Induce Vomiting
Vomiting could be as easy is getting your mind to think about puking. This is easier if you’re already feeling nauseous. It could be a struggle trying to think about throwing up because your mind may try to hinder the thought. However, if you’re able to concentrate enough on the sound, smell, sight or memory of it, the nausea will eventually build up and you will be able to throw up in no time.
Expose Yourself to Unpleasant Smells and Sights
If you’ve tried throwing up by thinking about it and it’s not working, probably because you cannot bring yourself to dwell on the thought, then this could be an easier (but not so easy) technique. Different sights or smells could help induce throwing up a lot faster. It could be puke or phlegm or mucus or even poop (gross!). For some folks, gore and blood make them get sorely nauseated. If you’re one of them, then all you need to do is think hard about it. For some others, it could be the smell and sight of dead or decaying matter, this often sends folks flying to the toilet in no time to let out the stomach’s content. The more disgusting the smell or grotesque the sight, the faster you will throw up
Gargle With Egg Whites
The mere thought of that already makes you want to puke or cut your mouth off, that’s the whole idea! If simply imagining it already gets you worked up, think about what gargling it would do. Before gargling, make sure you have separated the yolk from the white and rinse your mouth thoroughly afterwards.
This method is one of the most effective methods of self-inducing a vomit because its smell and taste is already nauseating. It’s effective enough in getting rid of toxins that could be lurking in your stomach.
Baking soda, also known as sodiumbicarbonate has been used to induce vomiting. This works because taking sodium bicarbonate too much will cause vomiting or nausea.
If you’re going with this method, get a glass of water and mix one teaspoon of baking soda in it. Stir it thoroughly and gulp it down at once. Then wait for the nausea to kick in. In no time, you’ll be expelling your stomach contents
It could be exhausting throwing up. We suggest you rest or get a good sleep afterwards.
