How to handle the pain from growing wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth tends to appear from the ages of eighteen to twenty five, or even later. They’re known as the third molars and are the last teeth in each of the four quadrants of your mouth.
Since wisdom teeth are usually the last to come in, there isn’t usually enough room in the mouth to grow properly so they may push or even get stuck against the other teeth and grow at an angle under the gum. The could result in what is known as an impacted wisdom tooth, and may cause swelling, pain and irritation in the gums.
You may also experience stuff like difficulty chewing food, pain in the adjacent teeth, headaches, difficulty biting and bad breath.
Wisdom tooth pain could start suddenly without any sort of warning or it could occur gradually. It may be get unbearable and possibly disrupt your day-to-day activities. Home remedies can help with the pain.
However, if the pain just keeps coming back, then you should probably get the tooth pulled by a dentist.
Natural Ways to Handle the Pain from Growing a Wisdom Tooth

Clove

Clove reduces the pain from wisdom teeth as well as other toothaches. It has analgesic and anesthetic properties that will help numb the pain. It also has antibacterial and antiseptic properties that will prevent infections. Both the clove buds and clove oil can be used.
Use a cotton ball to apply some clove oil on the painful area. Do this after a few hours for two more times. If you feel that the oil is too strong, you can dilute with some olive oil.

You can also place about three whole cloves in your mouth close to the aching wisdom tooth. The cloves will release their essential oil and you’ll get relief from the pain.
You could mix a crushed garlic clove, a few drops of clove oil and a little rock salt to make a paste that can be applied on the swollen gums. After applying this paste, leave it for ten minutes before rinsing your mouth with warm water. Do this twice a day.

Salt

Salt will help reduce the inflammation and then fight and prevent the infection. Mix a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water. Swish in your mouth several times a day so that it keeps germs and the pain at bay.
You can also mix equal amounts of salt and pepper with a few drops of water to form a paste. Apply the paste on the affected tooth and allow to sit for a few minutes. Do this thrice a day until the pain is gone.

Garlic

Garlic has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties, along with some medicinal properties. All of these work together to relieve the pain from the aching wisdom tooth. It could also help slow down or prevent bacterial infections in your mouth.
Crush a clove of garlic and hold against your aching wisdom tooth in your mouth.
You can also chew two garlic cloves as it will offer some relief from the pain.
There’s the option of mixing two garlic cloves crushed into a paste with some black salt. Apply this onto the affected area and allow for a few minutes before spitting it out.
Follow any of these remedies twice a day for a few days to be alleviate the pain.

Onion

Onions have antimicrobial, antiseptic and antibacterial properties which will help provide relief from toothaches while also killing germs that could cause infections.
Simply chew a few onion slices for some minutes. If you can’t chew as a result of the pain and swelling, place a small piece of raw onion (you can crush them) on the affected tooth.
Use it several times a day to lessen the pain.

Guava Leaves

Guava leaves are excellent for relieving toothache. They contain quercetin, a bioflavonoid that has antispasmodic properties. They’re also rich in anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antimicrobial properties.
Simply chew two tender guava leaves slowly so that the juices are released into your mouth. Soon enough, the ache will disappear.
You can also boil about six guava leaves in a cup of water for five minutes. Strain afterwards and allow to cool. Use it as a mouthwash two times a day to alleviate wisdom tooth pain.

Peppermint

Peppermint is another effective remedy that has been used for the longest time. The herb is rich in anesthetic properties that help to relieve pain. Plus, it can also help to get rid of bacteria in the mouth that may cause an infection.
Simply rub some peppermint oil on the area that aches and allow it stay for a few minutes. Rinse the mouth with warm salt water.
You could also add a teaspoon of dried peppermint leaves to a cup of hot water. Steep for twenty minutes and strain. Then use a mouthful and swish it around in your mouth for thirty seconds and spit it out. Do so with the remaining solution till its finished.
Follow either of these remedies 2 or 3 times a day until the pain gets better.

Sage

Sage has natural pain relieving properties that are effective in providing instant relief from wisdom tooth pain. It also has anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties that will help cure the aches as well as gingivitis bleeding hims and mouth sores.

To use

• Simply mix two teaspoons of dried, crushes sage and a teaspoon of salt in a small glass
• Pour some vodka or whisky into the glass
• Let it sit for about five minutes
• Afterwards, swish the mixture around in your mouth for a few minutes and then spit it out.
• Repeat this procedure with the remaining solution.
• Do this thrice a day till the pain has subsided.

Vanilla Extract

Vanilla extract contains low levels of alcohol and is rich in antioxidant properties that can help numb the pain of a wisdom tooth.
• Apply 3 or 4 drops of vanilla extract onto a cotton swab.
• Hold the cotton swab directly against the affected tooth for several minutes.
• Repeat 2 or 3 times a day until the problem subsides.
Note: Vanilla extract is not the same as vanilla essence commonly used for cooking and baking.
