Wrinkles are a major part of aging and people will start to notice them as you get older. However, it’s possible you develop wrinkles at a much younger age. When this happens, lots of people panic and spend bucketloads of money trying to get rid of them.
Wrinkles are folds or creases on the skin that are often most prominent on areas exposed to the sun such as the hands, face, neck and forearms. Exposure to sun is one of the major causes of wrinkles, especially for people who are fair-skinned.
A few other factors contribute to wrinkling like excessive smoking, dehydration, drinking, pollutants, therapy and medication.
You may also be engaging in habits that induce wrinkles without knowing. Avoiding these habits will cause your skin to look younger for a very long time.
Habits that May Cause Wrinkles

Neglecting Ears, Neck and Hands

Even if your face is flawless, the moment you start to have saggy skin around your neck and wrinkly hands, you automatically start to look older than your age. You will have to pay attention to your ear, hands and neck if you want to maintain a youthful appearance.
Thoroughly scrub your ears, neck and hands at least two times a week. Also apply moisturizer often so your skin stays soft and hydrated. On cold days, apply moisturizer on damp skin to lock moisture in.
Also apply sunscreen to your ears, neck and back of your hands.

Ignoring the Eyes

Wrinkles around the eyes will make you appear older. The skin around the eyes are really thin and can be easily damaged by UV exposure irritation and other factors.
To help keep skin around the eyes from wrinkling, take extra care of it. Don’t rub your eyes with your fingers as it can cause wrinkles to stay and eventually get permanent.
Rubbing vigorously can also cause a rupture of the blood vessels beneath your skin and make your dark circles a lot more prominent. If your eyes get irritated, simply splash cold water on them.
You can get a good quality eye cream to keep the skin moisturized. Also, massaging the area for a few minutes everyday will help boost blood circulation and rejuvenate the skin.
Whenever you’re going out in the sun, put on sunglasses to protect your eyes from the damaging UV rays.

Long, Hot Showers

Long, hot showers are so relaxing, especially if you had a long day. Unfortunately, the heat is not so great for your skin as it could cause wrinkles. Hot water strips the skin of its natural oils leaving the skin vulnerable. Without the protection, the skin starts aging prematurely.
It’s best to get a lukewarm shower instead as there’s no risk of losing your natural oil.

Over-exfoliating

Exfoliation is a healthy habit that should be encouraged as it helps get rid of excess oil, dead skin cells, debris and dirt. Doing this regularly will unclog skin pores and let skin care products penetrate deeply into your skin, thus making it appear more vibrant.
However, there’s such a thing as over-exfoliating and this is rather unhealthy. Over-exfoliating will strip your skin of its natural oils and leave your skin red and irritated.
Keep your exfoliation at once a week if you have dry skin and twice if you have oily skin. Use gentle motions when exfoliating and don’t scrub harshly.

Sleeping with Makeup

It’s normal to want to dive into bed after a tiring day at work without taking your makeup off. However, sleeping with makeup will only cause significant damage on your skin and accelerate the aging process.
Makeup attracts pollutants and free radicals throughout the day and will end up clogging hour pores while also breaking your collagen fibers.
It’s therefore important to get rid of your makeup, wash your face with a mild cleanser and apply a moisturizer before bed. All these so your skin can breathe.

Smoking

Smoking is a terrible habit that is unhealthy. It causes heart diseases, lung problems, infertility, high blood pressure, cancer and so much more.
If you already have knew that, then chances are, you probably didn’t know that smoking can also cause skin conditions like uneven skin tone, psoriasis, saggy skin etc. The muscles around your mouth gets overworked when your smoke, leading to deep wrinkles overtime. Exposure to second hand smoking will also irritate the skin.

Excessive Drinking

Excessive drinking is unhealthy for your body. It speeds up aging as it depletes vitamin A levels in the body. Vitamin A is a potent antioxidant that contributes to the production of collagen.
With little collagen, you start aging faster.
Excessive drinking will also bloat your blood vessels leading to unsightly varicose veins.
Plus, alcohol dehydrate you, which in turn affects your skin abs leads to aging signs like fine lines and wrinkles.
To keep your skin looking young and healthy, stop drinking. Also eat a healthy diet, meditation, yoga etc. If required, seek professional help.

Repetitive Facial Expressions

Facial expressions are an important part of communication. However, repeating sane expressions could contribute to premature aging signs like fine lines and wrinkles.
This is because your facial muscles are strained when you repeat a particular expression and overtimes, the muscles lose their flexibility, resulting in fine lines.
You will have to control expressions like squinting, scrunching, pouting and frowning, that tend to overlook your facial muscles.
Also avoid pulling and stretching your skin while making up or cleaning. Don’t forget to use a good night cream before bed to help your skin repair itself overnight.

Tummy and Side Sleeping

Sleep is great your healthy skin. It is generally recommended that you get at least six to seven hours of sleep everyday to help you stay looking youthful and vibrant. However, you will have to pay attention to your sleep position to avoid wrinkles.
Beauty experts say that sleeping on your side or belly could lead to wrinkles. Even if your pillow is really soft, having your face burrowed into your pillow will put unnecessary pressure on the elastin and collagen fibers and will eventually lead to fine lines on your chin, forehead and cheeks.
It’s best to sleep on your back. If possible, use a satin pillowcase.
