Getting Rid of Dandruff with Simple Home Remedies

Getting rid of dandruff can be a hassle at times, as this hair condition seems quite difficult especially when using chemical hair products (as this may work, but the possibility of losing one’s hair is very likely), and at times it may not give the maximum output, but we shall be taking you through the causes, and easy to get home remedies.

Dandruff is usually caused by skin cells that grow and die way too fast, other factors that may lead to this condition are; dry skin, and hair product sensitivity. The situation of dying skin cells can be attributed to a particular kind of fungus called; malassezia, as this fungus lives and feeds on the scalp (although it is not harmful in anyway). The reasons to why we suffer from this condition, isn’t clear, and neither has it been proven scientifically.

           Simple Home Remedies

  • Olive oil & Neem leave:

Get some already dried neem leaves, they must be properly crushed (grounded) into a powder form, and most preferably put in a bowl, then mixed with about 4-5 teaspoons of olive oil. This paste should be applied directly on the scalp, and it should be left for an hour before washing it off, with a mild shampoo and conditioner. This works because the extract gotten from the neem leave is rich with anti-fungal component, which aids the treatment of dandruff.

  • Aspirin:                                                                                                                         Take two tablets of aspirin and crush into a smooth powdery form, then add a little amount of shampoo, mix this two properly, and apply on your scalp, do this, at least every morning before taking your bath. The aspirin contains salicylates, which is very good for exfoliating the scalp, and aiding in getting rid of dandruff.
  • Yogurt:

Plain yogurt is a very rich remedy for dandruff and its procedures are not difficult to follow; make sure your is washed and rinsed properly, before applying the plain yogurt, and massaging your scalp softly but very well for about 15 minutes, and wash again, but this time with just a little potion of shampoo, and conditioner. This works because it helps in boosting friendly bacteria in the system that reduces the yeast within the body, and it also prevents scaling of ones scalp, as it is a good source of probiotics.

  • Baking soda:

This is a good remedy for getting rid of dandruff, since baking soda, is a mild and gentle exfoliator that removes dead skin very fast. It reduces the excessive oil on the scalp. To use this, one must firstly wet their hair, before applying the baking soda, on the scalp, then leave it for about three to four minutes before washing with shampoo (this may make the hair dry initially), but soon after that face is over, your scalp would begin to produce natural oil, that fights against the dryness. As it is known for the its strength in combating overly active fungi, which is the main cause of dandruff, but one must note that this procedure should be followed carefully, and should be done at most twice a day, to reduce the dry impact of the baking soda on the hair, and scalp.

  • Coconut oil:

Simply wash your hair and dry properly, do this without applying, conditioner. Then apply unadulterated coconut oil, directly on your scalp and leave for some minutes. Do this for one week, as the oil will penetrate deep into the epidermis and works within, as it contains fatty acids, which regenerates properties that treat dandruff. And this should be done every morning, before your bath, for a week religiously.

  • Tea tree oil:

Adding a few drops of this oil, into a little amount of shampoo, apply this after making sure that it was properly mixed, massage this this mixture to the scalp and properly rinse after five minutes of application. This works magic, as studies has showed that the tea tree oil and shampoo helps a lot in treating dandruff, as the tea tree oil possesses amazing anti-inflammatory components, and high dermal penetration, this makes it the best remedy for fighting fungal properties, it also works, cause it has antiseptic properties, and this would work more effectively, if used daily for a week.

  • Egg yolk:

Using about two to three yolks of eggs, break into a bowl (preferably) apply on all parts of your scalp, cover with plastic bag and leave for an hour, after which you wash seriously with shampoo and some warm water (maybe twice) to get all the smell out. This works, because the egg yolk contains biotin, which is an essential treatment for dandruff, and leaves your hair looking healthier.

 

  • Olive oil:

This can be very good to use at night, before going to bed, drop some oil all in with a towel to absorb the excess oil, till the next morning, this works cause olive oil helps in moisturizing the already dried areas of the scalp and prevents flaking. It also loosens stubborn dandruff scales till they fall off, leaving it rejuvenated and healthy.

  • Castor oil:

This oil is also very good, because it is rich in Ricinoleic acid that kills microbial properties and heals scalp infections, which includes dandruff. And keeps both the scalp and hair moisturized cause of the presence of humectant (which gives the hair a silky and shiny in looks).

  • Listerine mouthwash:

This is actually is one of the best remedies for dandruff, using a spray bottle, add the Listerine mouthwash, and a minimal amount of water, prep for about two minutes, then spray on every part of your scalp (make sure it gets into every angle of your hair), leave for another five minutes, then wash properly, using regular hair shampoo and conditioner, which should be rinsed with lukewarm water (preferably). This process should be done at least thrice a week, for positive results. The Listerine mouthwash, works because of the strong presence of antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal properties, which relieves your scalp of flaking, and itching. the above mentioned ingredients, are very rich and would assist greatly, in getting rid of dandruff. And their all affordable, and easy to find at convenience stores.

Dandruff Prevention Tips

  • Use a mind anti-dandruff shampoo frequently (as a clean scalp is the first prevention tip, to dandruff.
  • Brush the already effected areas, to reduce flaking.
  • Do not share your hair brush or comb with others, and lastly.
  • Always reduce the heat of your blow dryer, when drying your hair.
