We all want perfect, luscious and attractive lips. One thing your lips would thank you for is providing the nourishment it needs. The skin on the lips are delicate and extremely delicate. As a result of this delicateness, it’s bound to be beaten down by the harshness of the environment, like the sun, dry seasons or even habits like smoking.
So if your lips have fallen victim of this and is either chapped, peeling and dry, you should pay attention.

It’s indeed possible to make your own special lip balm, customised for your lips. You could even have them as gifts for loved ones, your mum, grandma or best friend.

Grapefruit Lip Balm

Here’s what you’ll need:

• A tablespoon of shea butter
• Half a teaspoon of grapefruit essential oil
• One tablespoon of castor
• Two tablespoons of coconut oil
• Powdered beet root (for addition of colour)

Here’s what you should do:

• Heat all the ingredients (apart from the beet root and the essential oil) together in a saucepan over the low heat.
• After a while, take the pan out of the heat, add the essential oil and thoroughly mix together.
• Next up is the powdered beet root. Mix in a small amount at a time until you get just the colour you want.
• Next, transfer the balm into a container.

Hemp And Honey Lip Balm

Here’s what you’ll need:

• One teaspoon of hemp oil
• Two teaspoons of honey
• Four teaspoons of almond oil
• Fifteen grams of shea butter
• Ten grams of Cocoa butter
• Ten grams of beeswax:

Here’s what you should:

• Melt the beeswax, shea butter and cocoa in a double boiler
• Are the honey, almond oil and almond oil in and stir until you get a perfect liquid consistency.
• Add some honey and blend all of the ingredients with a milk frother
• Observe it till it reaches a thick consistency, but medium.
• Pour out the balm into a container(s) and allow it to set.

Natural lip scrub

Here’s what you’ll need:

• A teaspoon of honey
• A teaspoon of white sugar
• A teaspoon of brown sugar
• Half a teaspoon of olive oil

Here’s what you should do:

• All of the ingredients should be mixed up together in a neat bowl.
• Mix until you get a perfect consistency
• You can apply It to your lips afterwards and massage for twenty minutes

Honey Lip Balm

Here’s what you need:

• Half a cup of grated beeswax, natural
• One teaspoon of honey
• About twelve drops of lemon essential oil
• Half a cup of coconut oil
• Two drops of vitamin E oil
• You can also get different containers to help you share to others or preserve some for yourself.

Here’s what you should do:

• In a glass bowl that is heat proof, place the coconut oil and grated beeswax.
• Heat one and half cup of water in a saucepan and bring it to boil.
• Then place the glass bowl in the boiling water and stir the ingredients in the glass bowl till they melt.
• After the coconut oil and beeswax have melted, take the bowl out of the saucepan and add in the honey, vitamin E oil and lemon essential oil.
• Stir the mixture and immediately begin to pour into containers with a funnel
• Close the containers and wait for the balm to cool

Peppermint Oil Lip Balm

Here’s what you’ll need:

• Two to three drops of peppermint essential oil
• One teaspoon of sweet almond oil
• One teaspoon of coconut oil
• One tablespoon of beeswax pellets

Here’s what you should do:

• Start by heating the coconut oil and beeswax in a double boiler. You could add some sweet almond to it
• Stir the ingredients with chopsticks
• Next, add the peppermint oil to the mixture and keep stirring
• Let the mixture cool a bit before pouring into your choice containers or tubes to set.

Shea Butter Lip Balm

Here’s what you’ll need:

• One tablespoon of shea butter
• One tablespoon of beeswax
• One teaspoon of raw honey
• One tablespoon of coconut oil, organic
• Five drops of lemon essential oil

Here’s what you should do:

• Start with melting the coconut oil, beeswax and shea butter in a double boiler
• After melting, pour in the essential oil and raw honey into the mixture.
• Let the mixture cool down before pouring them into a container
• You can apply when your lips need moisture. It also works well for cold sores.

Homemade Lemon Lip Balm

Here’s what you’ll need:

• One tablespoon of shea butter
• Five drops of lemon essential oil
• One teaspoon of raw honey
• One tablespoon of coconut oil, organic
• One tablespoon of beeswax

Here’s what you should do:

• Start by melting the coconut oil, beeswax and shea butter using a double boiler and a flame.
• After they’re melted, whisk the essential oil and the raw honey into the mixture.
• After the mixture cools down, pour the mixture into your choice containers.
• You can use the balm when you feel like your lips could use some moisturizing and you could use them on cold sores.

Tips: Preparing, Using And Storing Your DIY Lip Balm

We’d love to share a few tips so you know how to store and use your new lip balm
• Make sure that the containers used for the lip balm are dry and clean. This is so that contamination does not occur.
• Store the DIY lip balm you have made in a refrigerator as they do not contain any preservatives.
• While beeswax is used, make sure you crush the beeswax before melting.
• To solidify the balm, place it at room temperature
• Placing the freezer in a freezer is a NO NO as it may cause the balm to lose its form or potent qualities.
• Ingredients like cocoa butter, coconut oil and beeswax possess natural SPF properties and will therefore protect your lips from the sun.
• You could soothe chapped or dry lips using ingredients like menthol or even camphor. These will help ease any pain you may feel as a result of the dryness.
