These rough hands are sometimes natural. Other times though, it could be as a result of  daily activities like doing the dishes or even gardening, or the skin simply responding to regular chemicals or harsh weather conditions. However, it is possible to get your hands soft again, without having to buy expensive products. Natural, tested and proven methods exist that can get your hands smooth easily and quickly. Read on to find out how.

Natural Ways To Soften Rough Hands

1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is widely known for its nourishing properties and its moisturizing abilities. It helps therefore to keep hands chapped from dryness moisturized. Simply massage the oil onto your hands for about five minutes and put on a glove if you’re going to sleep with it. You will only get the best out of this technique if you stay consistent with it.

2. Vaseline

Remember Vaseline? Everybody does. Vaseline has always been loved for its moisturizing properties. Use Vaseline to get your hands as soft as a baby’s. The moisturizer seeps into the skin and causes the skin to become tender. To use, apply onto your hands and massage thoroughly until they are spread evenly through the fingers, palms and the interdigital folds. Also leave it through the night with the gloves on. Do this daily to get better results.

3. Warm Water

Warm water is a wonderful technique for softening rough hands. Warm water sometimes causes dryness to the skin, so you should pay  attention to the temperature of the water you use. For some fragrance, add lavender oil or rose essential oil to the water and soak your hands in it for about ten minutes. It does work fast, softening your  palms so you don’t kill someone with  just a pat on the back.

4. Sugar and Olive Oil

This combo helps moisturize your skin while removing the dead cells . Olive oil possesses moisturizing properties that helps  the skin stay refreshed and feeling like a baby’s. The sugar in the combo helps exfoliate the skin, removing the dead cells that may be lurking. It also takes care of the visible effects that come with as a result of the skin’s exposure to unfavourable conditions. These visible effects include wrinkling of the skin, dullness, skin toughening etc – nothing the sugar’s unfastening ability can’t fix. To use this method, mix a tablespoon of sugar into a tablespoon of olive oil  Make sure none is more than the other, especially the olive oil, to prevent the sugar from the dissolving into the oil. If mixed properly ,the result is a paste-like substance that you can then scrub onto your hands gently with a sponge, an old toothbrush or whatever works for you. You should scrub in for about ten minutes minutes before washing off the paste. In no time, you will marvel at how soft and comfy your hands have become.

5. Egg Yolks

While using this method, be sure to separate the egg yolk from the egg white. To the egg yolk, add rosewater, a teaspoon of honey and half a teaspoon of almond powder. Mix them all up thoroughly and rub into your hands for ten minutes. Be sure the mixture gets to grace every part of the hand – do not leave any stone unturned. When you’re done covering the skin with the mixture, allow to sit down for another ten minutes and then rinse off. The egg yolk contains high Vitamin A content while the almonds are rich in the Vitamin E. Your hands will be nourished and rejuvenated when you use this technique.

6. Milk and Yogurt

The yogurt and milk process is a highly effective technique that causes rough palms to become smooth and soft. To use this method, get half a cup of yogurt and one of cup of milk. Pour the cup of milk into the cup of yogurt, the milk should be warm. Get your hands soaked in the mixture for some time before massaging it into your hands. Massaging into your hands should last for about five minutes. Let it sit and work its magic on your skin for a while before washing it off.

7. Lemons and Sugar

This method is mostly used because it is highly effective and works fast. To use, cut a lemon in half and spray some sugar onto one of the halves  With the “sugar-coated lemon” scrub your hands thoroughly as it will help exfoliate your skin while causing it to soften. This method has been tried and tested and has been found to work faster. All you have to do is repeat this same process as consistently as you can.

8. Almond Oil and Butter

Almond oil and butter is another effective method. The butter aids in the lubrication of your skin and almond oil is rich in Vitamin E, which helps combat wrinkling. To use this method, mix a teaspoon of almond oil and two teaspoons of butter completely. Then apply the mixture all over your hands.  Be sure it stays for up to twenty minutes on your hand before washing it off. When washing off, it is preferable to do so with warm water. Your hands will feel soft if you are patient enough to continue doing this as regularly as you can.

While using any of the methods you choose to go for, be sure to include the following as part of your skin care routine :

  • Always drink enough water throughout the day to keep your skin dehydrated
  • Avoid alcohol and soda drinks as they can cause dehydration,  leaving your hands worse. If you must, take as little as possible.
  • While going about chores, be sure to use gloves to keep your hands intact and away from the impact of the harsh environment.
  • In very cold weather conditions, also put on the gloves..
  • Have a baby’s oil or a lotion around for when your skin gets dry

If you will faithfully do all of these, in no time, you  will be able to hold hands, shake people and even play with your niece without her constant complaints about your painful hands.
